Welcome, reader! You’re going to love this challenge, and we loved it so much, we did it again in February of 2016, but we did it backwards… Read more here!
Well, we’re finally all moved into our new home, and it’s been a wild few weeks. We traveled cross-country the week before Thanksgiving carefully dodging snow storms and icy roads. We made it home safe and sound.
…And then we waited almost two weeks for our household goods to join us.
Air mattresses do not make my back happy. Sigh. But everything is here now and I can cook real food and move forward with getting settled in!
Now, my home is full of boxes full of things that need homes and I’m a little overwhelmed.
Guys, even though we don’t have a lot of stuff (like, we’re missing crucial furniture, like a coffee table and a sofa and a desk), we have a ton of stuff. Seeing everything piled high and wondering “Where am I going to put this?” is exhausting for both myself and the husbeast, so we’re going to do something about it. Enter: The 30 Day Minimalist Challenge.
The 30 Day Minimalist Challenge
It’s pretty simple, and brilliant, really. Every day, for thirty days, you remove (trash, donate, or sell) items from your home.
Day 1: 1 item
Day 2: 2 items
Day 3: 3 items
Over the month, you say bye-bye to 465 items. 465 things lighter. 465 fewer things to clean, pick up, put away, and maintain. It’s sounding really appealing for us!
December Minimalist Challenge
We’re going to do the challenge for the whole month of December, and I’ll be checking in here weekly and daily on Instagram. Follow me there. I’ll be using the hashtag #30dayminimalistchallenge.
We’re going to push the challenge out to 31 days, for a total of 496 items to remove. We will be almost 500 things lighter starting the new year! You should join me on Instagram and share your destashing with the #30dayminimalistchallenge hashtag.
Since today is December 4, we have a little catching up to do. You need to purge 10 items to be caught up for the month so far.
Let me know if you’re joining! Drop a link to your Instagram account in the comments below and I’ll be sure to follow you back! Let’s destash and purge together to start the new year off on the right foot.
