I recently tried making stained glass jello for a red-white-and-blue themed potluck I had. Stained glass jello is so easy and cool to make, I don’t know why I didn’t do it before!
Tutorial: Stained glass jello
What you’ll need:
- four 3oz boxes of colored jello
- two packets of unflavored clear gelatin
- one 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
Step 1: Make your colored jello and pour it into separate containers (one per color/box). You want the containers to be big enough that you can cut nice cubes out of the set jello. Let set until very firm – at least four hours, but I let mine set overnight.
Step 2: Cut the colored jello into cubes.
Step 3: Arrange the cubes in a 9×13 glass pan in whatever color distribution suits your fancy.
Step 4: Pour two packets of unflavored gelatin into a ½ cup of cold water and stir it to start dissolving it. Then add 1 ½ cups of boiling water. Whisk until the gelatin is dissolved, then add the can of sweetened condensed milk and stir until combined.
Step 5: Pour the gelatin and condensed milk mixture over your cubes in the glass pan. Let set until very firm, at least four hours, but I really recommend overnight for this step.
Step 6: Cut the jello into cubes and enjoy!
Protip: Use regular jello, not the sugar-free kind. The sugar-free doesn’t hold its shape as well, in my experience.
For the red, white, and blue, I used two boxes of berry blue jello and one box each of cherry and strawberry.
This is easy to customize for whatever event you’re having. Superbowl party? Use your favorite team’s colors. Birthday party? Ask the guest of honor for their favorite colors. Pride? Make a larger batch with every color of the rainbow!
Do you love jello as much as I do? Because I totally ate the leftovers of this for breakfast every day until it was gone. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever made stained glass jello!
